Since its inception in 1955, Hyogo Pulp Co., Ltd. has grown to become the sole domestic manufacturer and marketer of UKP, and one of the world’s top suppliers over its history that spans more than 60 years. It has also established a solid position in Asian markets. (UKP is the acronym for unbleached kraft pulp. The word kraft means "strong" in German.)
In 1993, the Company became the first to start fully supplying biomass energy. While maintaining organic coordination with pulp operations, the Company expanded its biomass power generation business to supply green electric power.
Both business segments use previously discarded wood resources as raw materials. Hyogo Pulp promotes the effective use of wood resources through its pulp and biomass power generation businesses, and continues to contribute to the regeneration of forests and the lumber industry.
