Uses of UKP

Unbleached kraft paper (UKP) is a product with low environmental impact as waste wood is its main raw material, and only the minimum necessary amounts of chemicals are used for bleaching. UKP is used primarily as a material for the exterior kraft liner of corrugated cardboard. It has become an indispensable component of corrugated cardboard, which is made with a high percentage of recycled paper, as UKP adds strength to it.

One of the properties of virgin pulp is that it is not highly susceptible to contamination by impurities, unlike recycled pulp. Due to this property, it is used frequently as interleaving paper placed between industrial metal sheets to prevent scratching. Some of its unexpected uses are found as raw materials for exterior and roofing materials for buildings. UKP is receiving attention as a replacement for asbestos, which is harmful to people. In addition, UKP is widely used in a number of familiar products, including wrapping paper, table napkins, cleaning wipers, oil blotting paper, toilet paper, and rice paper.

UKP is most widely used as an exterior liner (paper that is laminated on the surface) of corrugated cardboard. Recycled paper use is rising in the manufacture of the corrugating media of cardboard. UKP is added in order to strengthen recycled paper, which has lower strength compared with virgin pulp.

The Company's UKP is used for exterior sidings as well as roofing and other construction materials. Construction materials that use UKP are lightweight, easy to process, and provide excellent fire resistance and sound insulation. UKP is also receiving attention as a replacement for asbestos.

UKP is used as an insulator inside transformers that are installed on electric poles. To provide insulation between electrodes, UKP is used as insulating paper or formed into the shape of pressboard. UKP is ideal given the limited possibility of it being contaminated by impurities.
